
Situated in the Five Avenues in Tianjin – “A Museum that You Can Take Home” The Time, comprising the Republic’s Parlour, China Space and Time Study, combining porcelains, paintings, calligraphy, furniture and antique books in an exhibition in a building with a history of more than 100 years, recreating the life of elites during the Republican China. China Space, an oasis in an urban jungle, holds special exhibitions ranging from Oriental arts to Western arts. The Republican culture has had an indelible impact on the city of Tianjin. Chinese and Western cultures met and communicated here, generating a unique style that has defined this city to this day.Tianjin was formerly known as “The Backyard of Beijing” because many aristocracyand officers of the Qing Dynasty, officials of the Beiyang Government and celebrities once resided here, including Li Yuanhong, Feng Guozhang, Xu Shichang, Cao Kun, Zhang Xueliang, Duan Qirui, Wang Shizhen and Jin Yunpeng. In 2016, Duton’s successfully held “Treasures from the Republic of China – Important Calligraphy and Literature” in China Space. This exhibition included works by Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek, Xu Shichang, Cao Kun, Li Yuanhong, Zheng Xiaoxu, Li Hongzhang, Liang Qichao, Cai Yuanpei, Li Shutong, Hu Shi, Qian Mu, Feng Zikai and Guo Moruo. They were a very special group of elites of that time. Whether they were politicians or scholars, the majority of them had great achievement in Chinese culture. Through their remarkable works, we can now learn about that glorious era.
